2014 got off with a great start. We had the New Year party at the QRCC organised by member's of the Russian Community that was enjoyed by all who attended.
Then the children had their Russian New Year (organised by the church school) all who attended having a great afternoon.
We can look ahead to the group that is organizing Maslenitsa on 01 March and of course the family Mazlentza
on the 15 March which is a fun day from 2pm with entertainment for all the family. We have some great prizes and raffle items available on the day.
The QRCC kitchen passed the health Inspection with flying colours there was not one negative point raised during the inspection even though our new stove was not installed yet. QRCC has got a new License for our kitchen use and the Entertainment License for the year.
We were also complemented by the inspector on our new toilets and handicap entrance.
A young Russian tourist Alexandr Artemov from Moscow visiting Australia spent his first week in Sydney before heading north.
On his second day on the Gold Coast he was swimming in the surf when he was hit by a massive wave and tossed about. He managed to walk out of the water before collapsing on the beach and was rushed to the Gold Coast Hospital. After initial examination he was airlifted to Princess Alexandria Hospital for Spinal Surgery. His spine was broken in two places and also he suffered fractured ribs.
He was cleared by his surgeon on Friday and flew home on Saturday morning after a couple of weeks of being cared for by members of the local Russian Community.
Alexandr has left for Moscow on the first of February, and on his behalf we would like
to thank Father Gabriel and his wife,
Lena and Anatoli Manou along with Irina Brook,
Elena Proskurina and Wayne Tilly and also
the staff of Princess Alexandra Hospital and
a teem of China Southern who went that extra by upgrading Alexandr for the flight home,
breaking his journey overnight by putting him in a hotel for the night and having a doctor check him before he continued his flight. There was someone appointed to carry his bags etc.
The QRCC have sent a letter to the airline in appreciation.
