The Russian Community Centre, located in Wooloongaba, Queensland, is the main central facility for the vast Australian-Russian population living in Brisbane. It is home to many specialty Russian clubs that help promote the Russian culture and traditions in Australia. The centre also has a number of its halls available for hire to the general public.

Russian Community Centre is full of creative spirit again!

The first function hosted by the new committee was the art exhibition which opened on 28 October 2011. The artwork of Russian artists from Brisbane was presented to the audience. The visitors could admire the variety of the oil, water colour and pastel paintings. Different genre were presented including graphics, digital art and silk painting. Some wonderful hand made jewellery was also exhibited.

Brisbane is home to many talented artists. The following artists exhibited their work: Eugenia Men, Arsenii Hlinovski, Dmitri Pakhomov, Irina Bush, Elena Proskurina, Svetlana Trefilova, Elena Kennedy and Vera Martinuk.

This exhibition is the first function organised by the new committee. The preparation was big, exciting and emotional. The efforts were not in vain: there were a lot of people who came to the opening and they were very pleased with what they saw. The variety of artwork surprised all who attended. Amongst it, some of the paintings of the newly discovered artists.

The artists themselves took active part in preparation by hanging their own paintings. Members of the committee helped with hall decorations, food preparation, coffee shop sales and the bar. Elena Pakhomova, Lena Ilyina, Samantha Frolov, Wayne Tilly and Olga Sudnitzin from the new committee took active part getting thing organised fort his big event. Each member contributed their time and efforts to make it happen.

One of the artists, Dmitry Pakhomov said that this exhibition in the Russian Centre is one of the highlights of the cultural life of the Russian Community of Brisbane. It incorporated so many different styles of paintings. He sincerely thanked the organisers lead by the current President Elena Pakhomova for their efforts

The guests unanimously approved of this event and all are hoping that these functions will become a tradition. Each artist clearly has its individual style, enormous talent and so much to offer!
