Annual St Vladimir’s Ball at the Russian Centre |
5th of August the Queensland Russian Community Centre held its annual St. Vladimir's Ball.
Elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen descended on the appropriately decorated Queensland Russian Community Centre for a night opulence and indulgence in the magical music of Igor and Irina Orlovski. Their virtuosos performance of classical pieces performed on the violin and cello, made patrons forget their troubles and float away to another era of balls, chivalrous courtship, and the waltz.
Complete with a beautiful, regal themed décor, the QRCC was almost unrecognisable. Zhanna Harbachova announced the official commencement of the Ball and asks father Ioan, to traditionally bless the table as the guests pause to acknowledge his prayer.
Afterwards, Zhana invited the patrons to try the delectable cuisine prepared by Irina Peshkoff, Svetlana Remington, Dasha Dorofeefva and Julia Reznikova.
Elena Gosse took to the floor to thank all who have helped the centre during her year as president of the QRCC.
“It warms my heart to see so many senior representatives in the hall tonight, many of whom have been able to attend the Queensland Russia Community Centre since the completion of the accessibility ramp in June this year,” Elena said.
“I would like to thank the incredible support from the Russian community of Brisbane, and everyone I have been fortunate to work with over the last year.”
Elena invited Svetlana Remington on stage to thank her for her tireless efforts and creativity in transforming the humble surroundings into magical masterpieces. She also thanked Dasha Dorofeeva for the amount of work that went into creating the hand painted curtain, and Wayne Tilly & Elena Proskurina for their invaluable assistance throughout the project.
The program commenced with the sound of a festive waltz. Zhanna Harbachova briefly spoke of the history of balls in Russia complete with a visual projection of scenes of dances from different epochs, starting with Peter the Great and right through to the start of the 21st century.
Alexey Ekzarkho re-enacting a reading of the Decree of Peter the Great.
Following a brief excursion into the past Alexey Ekzarkho announced the commencement of the dancing portion of the evening with wave after wave of guests rising from their tables to fill the dance floor with gleaming faces, flowing dresses, and elegance of yesteryear.
The waltz melted into an upbeat tango, followed by more contemporary sounds performed by Elena Gosse and Alla Ekzarkho. The wonderful combination of musical eras, styles and rhythms fulfilled every guest’s desires.
Through the Auction led by Natalia Morozoff QRCC raised $400.
In all, the ball was a true success.
